Antonio Banderas has enrolled in fashion school for a surprising reason: he wants to design capes.

We suppose lumberjack shirts are going out of style anyway, so how about letting Antonio Banderas usher in a new and exciting era of men’s fashion?

Banderas announced last month that he was enrolling in the prestigious art and design school Central Saint Martins, and in a new interview with 1Granary, the former Zorro star revealed why.

“There is one garment that I love that was lost in menswear a long time ago, and I would like to experiment with it: the cape,” Banderas said. “Capes in the winter, in places like this… I think they have incredible possibilities. They’re very comfortable.”

We would have to agree with Banderas 100%. (Just look at Elvis in the above picture. Very snug.) There is absolutely nothing not to love about the idea of men traipsing around wearing capes of various lengths and colors. They’re like skirts for your neck, right? Lots of twirling and swivelling potential.

Banderas further revealed, “In Spain there are still places where there are clubs of people who love to wear capes … for me, it’s actually easier than a coat, you walk into a place and you just BOOM! Throw it off.”

Yes. All the yes.

Now, would you go with the classic black Zorro cape, or something more glamorous, perhaps Little Red Riding Hood-inspired? What about the ageless Count Dracula model, in shiny silks and with just a hint of blood smears on the collar? There’s always the good old Superman or Batman get-ups, too — it’d be like cosplaying, but in real life!

What we wouldn’t give to be flies on the wall of Banderas’ first fashion show.
