Marvel’s Ant-Man adaptation has been veiled in secrecy since its inception, but today we’ve found out that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are in the running to play the lead role.

Director Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man film has been very hush-hush since test footage was leaked in March.

Marvel and Wright have been able to keep the leaks to a minimum, but that may have been because Edgar is still polishing up the script because now we have two male leads in the running for the lead role of Ant-Man.

Variety reports that actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are in talks with Marvel about playing Hank Pym (Ant-Man), and we couldn’t be more excited. These are two very different actors, but both have the ability to bring comedy elements into what should be a great role.

There’s also talk that there could be one more actor being added to the list, but these two are meeting with Marvel and Edgar Wright for one final time according to info from an insider.

The character of Hank Pym is unique, for the reason that the majority of filmgoers don’t know much about him or his superhero alter ego Ant-Man. This will allow director Edgar Wright to put his own signature on the character and bring the best out of the pint-sized superhero.

Gordon-Levitt and Rudd are certainly interesting choices, but we’re kind of digging them both. Gordon-Levitt is probably the most popular choice, as he’s the most relevant right now, but Paul Rudd’s experience could be beneficial for bringing Hank Pym’s personality to the screen.

Oddly enough, Paul Rudd was asked about potentially playing Ant-Man a few months back, and he seemed very interested in playing the role. This is the first time he or Joseph’s names have been brought up in terms of playing Ant-Man, but we imagine talks have been going on between the actors and Marvel for a few weeks.

Edgar Wright reportedly wants to cast a “normal looking actor” with an ability to throw a few jokes out on a whim. Both actors certainly fit this role. It’ll be interesting when we do find out who will be cast as Ant-Man since he will of course be teaming up with The Avengers within the next few years in one of Marvel’s Avengers’ sequels.

Director Edgar Wright’s latest film was The World’s End. Featuring his friends Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the film’s limited release only allowed it to reach $44 million at the box office.

Currently holding a 89% on Rottentomatoes, Wright’s latest film was very well received. Simon Pegg was even rumored to be in the running to play Ant-Man, but he squashed the rumors during press junket interviews for The World’s End back in August.

We imagine we’ll be hearing much more about the film once the lead role is announced, and we’re very excited to find out what other actors will be joining Marvel’s Ant-Man adaptation.

Director Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man will be hitting theaters July 31, 2015. Which actor would you prefer to play the role of Ant-Man?
