Hamilton alumn Anthony Ramos could be joining the cast of the big screen adaptation of In The Heights!

The news comes from Variety, who says that a source close to the project has revealed that Anthony Ramos is currently in talks to star as Usnavi in Warner Brothers’ upcoming adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award winning musical, In The Heights.

Ramos, who can currently be seen sharing the big screen with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, is best known amongst Hamilton fans for originating the roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in Miranda’s revolutionary hip-hop musical.

Additionally, Ramos stepped into the role of Usnavi (a role originally played by Miranda himself on Broadway) when In The Heights’ returning run at the Kennedy Center earlier this year.

A film version of the hit Broadway musical has been in the works for quite some time, but this the first we’re hearing as far as potential casting news for the adaptation, which was originally set to be distributed by The Weinstein Company.

The film transferred over to Warner Bros., who won the rights in a bidding war, after the film was revoked from the production company following the sexual assault allegations made against Harvey Weinstein.

Crazy Rich Asians helmer John M. Chu will direct the upcoming adaptation, while Quiara Alegria Hudes (who wrote the book for the stage musical) is on board to pen the script. Miranda will produce on the project alongside Anthony Bregman, Mara Jacobs, and Scott Sanders.
