Anthony Mackie is partnering with Netflix on a new action science fiction flick Outside the Wire. The actor will star and produce.

Anthony Mackie might have a really bright future in the MCU these days, but he’s not willing to rest on his superhero laurels. The actor is embarking on a new adventure with Netflix, starring and producing a new action science fiction flick called Outside the Wire.

As Deadline reports, the movie will be set in the future and will be directed by Mikael Håfström (Escape Plan). Mackie will play a drone pilot who is sent into a deadly militarized area. Mackie’s character, while working for an android officer, will be tasked to locate a doomsday device before a group of insurgents can find it and wield it.

Outside the Wire is set to begin shooting in August, and additional casting for the movie is underway. In addition to starring in the movie, Mackie will also produce the film with Automatik and 42.

Of course, Outside the Wire isn’t the only new project that Mackie has outside the MCU. Despite his role in the film and his upcoming series for Disney+, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he’s been incredibly busy outside of the Marvel world as well. Mackie recently starred in the episode “Striking Vipers” in season 5 of Black Mirror, and he has several new forthcoming films like The Woman in the Window, The Banker, and another sci-fi flick Synchronic.

We can’t wait to see Mackie in all of these new roles, and Outside the Wire sounds like it will be truly amazing. Anthony Mackie is quite the talented actor, and it’s awesome to see him do amazing work both inside and outside of the MCU.

There’s no word yet on when Outside the Wire will premiere on Netflix, but with production starting late this summer, we hopefully won’t have to wait too long for this one.
