In a new interview, Anthony Steward Head, who played Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, admits his bafflement at the proposed remake of the Buffy movie.

What really rattles Head, according to The Wrap, is the fact that Joss Whedon would not be involved with the remake of the 1992 movie which preceded the TV series. Joss Whedon reportedly denied to get involved after plans leaked to take the movie in a “darker direction.” Fran Kuzui directed the film, and she and husband Rubel Kuzui still own the rights to the franchise.

The Wrap notes Head as “laughing with exasperation” at the prospect of the reboot. The article notes that, “despite widespread disgust by fans of the series,” the Buffy movie is planned for a late 2012 release.

Is moving ahead with this project the right move? Is the world ready for yet another Buffy, this one without Joss Whedon’s involvement? After all, consider the original movie! There wasn’t what magic there.
