CW President Mark Pedowitz announced the network will develop another Supernatural spinoff for the 2015-16 season.

We reported as much earlier today, and now we’re getting a few more details. The first attempted spinoff came in the form of Bloodlines, which aired as a backdoor pilot earlier this season to lukewarm fan and critical response and was not picked up for the fall season. Bloodlines introduced a new cast of characters and was tonally quite different from the parent series.

However, Pedowitz has proven quite supportive of Supernatural, which is the network’s longest running and one of its highest rated series. “We believe that there’s a real brand in Supernatural,” Pedowitz said ahead of the CW Upfront. A second spinoff would potentially include currently existing characters in the Supernatural universe.

“We had six really good pilots this year. We felt that Supernatural [spinoff Bloodlines] just didn’t quite get there, though we do know that people would come to it based on what we saw that night.”

Pedowitz added, “I’ve already spoken to the creator and the studio. They know that we want to develop once more next season, a Supernatural spinoff. What it is and what it isn’t yet is still in the air.” Discussions about a second spinoff are expected to occur over the summer.

The CW has been spinoff-friendly over the last two seasons, picking up the Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals, last fall and Arrow spinoff, The Flash, for the upcoming season.

Supernatural will retain its time slot at 9:00 p.m. ET on Tuesdays this coming fall. It will be paired with freshman drama The Flash.
