Captain Marvel has officially added Annette Bening to its already star-studded cast!

According to Variety, actress Annette Bening has officially signed on to join the cast of Marvel’s highly anticipated female-led superhero flick, Captain Marvel.

Specific details of Bening’s role in the film are pretty sparse for now, but sources are reporting that she’ll likely be playing mom to the titular superhero.

Bening joins previously announced cast members Brie Larson, who will be playing Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, Jude Law (Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell), Ben Mendelsohn, Lee Pace (Ronan), and Gemma Chan (Minn-Erva).

The cast also includes returning Marvel veteran Samuel L. Jackson. who will be reprising his role as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury in the upcoming superhero flick.

The upcoming film is set to introduce Carol Danvers, who starts off as an Air Force pilot before developing her superhero powers.

Danvers’ abilities, which include super strength, energy projection, and the ability to take flight, start to manifest themselves after an accident that causes her DNA to fuse with that of an alien’s.

Bening’s role in Captain Marvel will mark the award winning actress’ first time appearing in a superhero flick. We can’t wait to see her share some scenes with Larson in the upcoming movie!

Captain Marvel flies into theaters next year on March 8, 2019.
