The rumor that’s been floating around for a while has finally been confirmed: Anne Hathaway has signed on to star alongside Jackman and Crowe in Universal Pictures and Working Title Films’ adaptation of Les Miserables.

Hathaway, who will soon be seen as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, will play Fantine in the Tom Hooper-directed Les Mis. Hooper brought The King’s Speech to Oscar-winning glory earlier this year, and Les Mis will drop in the middle of the Oscar race at the end of next year, on Dec. 7, 2012.

Russell Crowe will be playing Inspector Javert and Hugh Jackman is set to star as Jean Valjean in the film version of this iconic novel-turned-musical. Cameron MacKintosh, who produced the stage adaptation, is producing the movie, along with Working Title’s Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Debra Hayward. William Nicholson wrote the script for this project.

Do you think Hathaway is the right woman for the role? Will you see this movie?
