Could Anne Hathaway be stepping into Barbie’s hot pink stiletto heels? The answer is maybe!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anne Hathaway is currently in talks to portray the iconic Mattel doll in Sony Pictures’ upcoming live-action Barbie movie.

Back in December, we learned that comedic actress Amy Schumer would be bringing Barbie to life in the upcoming flick. Unfortunately, the actress ended up having to back out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.

When Schumer was attached, the actress was also said to be working on the script for Sony’s Barbie movie. In Schumer’s version, the movie was set to focus on what happens when Barbie is forced to live in the real world after she gets chucked out of Baribeland for not being perfect enough.

The premise made for an interesting idea, and movie fans far and wide seemed receptive of the concept when Schumer was attached. Now that Hathaway could be stepping into the role, it’s unclear whether the film will follow the same tone or if it will go in a different direction.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see what transpires if Hathaway ends up accepting the part. Though the Oscar-winning actress has been gravitating toward dramas as of late, Hathaway is no stranger to rom-coms, so we’re sure she’d do a fantastic job if she signs on.

Meanwhile, Amy Schumer herself took to Instagram to comment on the rumors that Hathaway could be spearheading the upcoming project.

“Hathaway smathaway,” wrote Schumer along with a selfie of herself on the go. “Jkjk she’s perfect!! Can’t wait to see it!”

It’s nice to hear that Hathaway officially has Schumer’s stamp of approval. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if negotiations go through!

Helmed by Australian director Aletha Jones, Sony’s upcoming Barbie movie is slated to be released on June 29, 2018.
