A new animated adaptation of Harriet the Spy is coming down the pipeline at Apple TV+!

According to Deadline, Apple has ordered a brand new animated series adaptation of the beloved children’s book, Harriet the Spy.

Written by Louise Fitzhugh and originally published in 1964, the book follows the titular young girl who dreams of becoming a writer. In an effort to turn her dreams into reality, Harriet spends her free time observing others in and around New York City, and writing those observations down in her trusty notebook.

Apple’s forthcoming animated adaptation of the classic children’s book already has some big names attached to bring the story to life.

Behind the scenes, the series is set to be written by Will McRobb, who served as co-creator on the hit 90s Nickelodeon series, The Adventures of Pete & Pete.

Meanwhile, actors Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart), Jane Lynch (Glee), and Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls) have all signed on to lend their voices to characters on the forthcoming animated series.

As with the book, the Apple animated series will focus on the ever curious and ambitious Harriet— an 11-year-old who hopes to someday be a professional writer.

For the Apple adaptation, Feldstein will lend her voice to the titular Harriet, while Lynch will play Harriet’s encouraging nanny, Ole Golly. Meanwhile, Chabert will voice the character of Marion Hawthorne, a popularly girl in Harriet’s class.

Currently, there’s no word on who else might join the cast, though those familiar with the source material will likely recall that Fitzhugh’s book is full of unforgettable characters. With that in mind, we’re sure we’ll be hearing word of additional casting announcements with regards to Apple’s animated Harriet The Spy series soon.

Apple TV+ has yet to announce when we might expect to see the animated series make its debut.
