Players in the EU can get Animal Crossing New Leaf free from friends who already own the real-life simulation game.

In order to give Animal Crossing New Leaf free to a friend of choice, game owners in select Europe countries and South Africa need only register their copy with Nintendo to send over the digital download code.

The news of Animal Crossing New Leaf free giveaways comes from the European version of today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast.

The exact steps to access the Animal Crossing New Leaf free download code are as follows:

1. Fill out a registration survey for the existing copy of Animal Crossing New Leaf on the Club Nintendo rewards program website.

2. A Recommendation Code can then be requested by the owner of the registered game.

3. Lastly, the recipient must use their friend’s Recommendation Code on Club Nintendo’s website when registering their 3DS. The recipient will then be given an Animal Crossing New Leaf free download code to be used in the 3DS eShop, which is to be used before October 7, 2013.

As is reported by CVG.com, both participants must be a resident of any of the following countries: the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, South Africa, or Russia.

And just like that, you can give your friend Animal Crossing New Leaf free! Pretty neat, huh?

We’re not sure where Nintendo’s coming from in doing this promotion. Animal Crossing New Leaf is currently a bestselling Nintendo 3DS game, and therefore need not have any other type of promotion attached to it.

Perhaps Nintendo feels as though the Animal Crossing New Leaf free promotion will convince players on the fence to finally purchase a 3DS.

Animal Crossing New Leaf is the fourth game in the Animal Crossing series, and follows Animal Crossing City Folk for the Wii.

In Animal Crossing, players control all parts of their talking animal town, including things like clothing patterns and house decorations. The overarching goal is to pay the large mortgage on the player’s ever-growing house, while maintaining good relations with animal neighbors.
