After the world discovered a game-breaking item cloning glitch in the recently released Nintendo Switch title, Nintendo swiftly responded with a mandated patch.

If you want to still use the Animal Crossing clone glitch, you’re out of luck, as you can only activate the glitch with another player, but you cannot connect with others without the patch.

For those that used the Animal Crossing clone glitch before the patch, they were able to make unlimited copies of literally every item, from tarantulas to gold crowns.

To do the glitch, one player picks up a stacked item, while the other spins the pile before the pocket animation is complete. It looks a little something like this.

Players were racking in bells in the tens of millions with no problem, essentially ruining a major component of the Animal Crossing experience: slowly paying off your massive mortgage.

In the official patch notes for version 1.1.1, Nintendo simply states the patch “Fixed a serious bug affecting game balance.”

If you’re still looking to get some quick Animal Crossing bells, we’ve created an FAQ on the quickest, non-glitch ways to get the most bells possible. While a time travel exploit is the best way to get the most money, it’s still a little less skeevy than cloning items.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons saw a massive opening weekend, aiding the Nintendo Switch in outselling the lifetime sales of the Nintendo Wii in Japan.

With much of the world under COVID-19 quarantine, fans of Animal Crossing are just as hungry as ever to escape the real world, while still socializing with their friends.

New Horizons released on March 20, 2020. It’s one of the first Nintendo games to include real-time messaging, making it a great way to toil the quarantine days away.
