Angelina Jolie could be the next big star to join the Marvel family.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie is currently in talks to join upcoming Marvel Studios title, The Eternals.

Based on the comics by Jack Kirby, the Eternals are a subrace of humankind created by the Celestials. Though they are human in their appearance, the Eternals are near-immortal beings and possess an array of superpowers.

Their job is to protect the Earth from the Deviants — a race of vengeful beings born as a byproduct of the experiments the Celestials were conducting that ultimately lead to the birth of the Eternals.

Though a big screen adaptation of Kirbys’ comics has been in the works for a while now, Marvel is keeping tight-lipped with regards to what the upcoming superhero flick might focus on.

In addition, there’s no word yet on who Jolie herself might play if she boards the project officially.

Behind the scenes, Songs My Brother Taught Me helmer Chloe Zhao will serve as director on the project. She’ll be working off of a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect The Eternals to hit theaters.

In the meantime, Jolie fans can next catch the actress reprising her role as one of Disney’s most notorious villains in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, due out October 18.
