Angelina Jolie is apparently on Marvel’s wishlist of directors for their first female-led superhero movie Captain Marvel.
A few months back, the rumor that Angelina Jolie was considering branding her name on the Captain Marvel director’s chair began circulating.
Now, Collider has learned that the actress-turned-director is, “Definitely under consideration for the job.”
The publication also notes that DC Comics was considering Jolie for Wonder Woman after Michelle MacLaren left the project, but the studio has since announced Patty Jenkins as the new director.

A few days ago, we reported that Marvel has signed two female screenwriters to collaborate on the Captain Marvel script.
Rather than asking the writers to produce separate scripts, Marvel has teamed up Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman and Inside Out co-writer Meg LeFauve for what will hopefully be a conducive partnership.
Like DC, Marvel is looking for a female director to helm their first (and so far only) female-led superhero movie, and Angelina Jolie seems an obvious candidate. She is a vocal spokesperson for women’s rights, and has the star power to draw in new audiences for the studio.

However, some might argue that Jolie lacks the directing experience to lead such an ambitious production. Last year’s Unbroken was met with lukewarm response, and she only has two more credits to her name.
Her two upcoming projects, By the Sea and Africa (both starring Brad Pitt) are pitched as gritty war dramas, and at first glance, a superhero movie seems like a diversion from her style — but maybe fresh eyes is exactly what Captain Marvel needs.
Captain Marvel is set to be released on November 2, 2018.
