Horror fans who just can’t get enough of director Andy Muschietti’s It can rest easy knowing there’s already a planned sequel in the works.

The latest adaptation of Stephen King’s It dominated the box office over the weekend, raking in a whopping $123 million domestically. With such impressive numbers, it seems only natural that both Muschietti and his wife, producer Barbara Muschietti, are already ruminating over the possibility of a sequel.

In fact, the duo already have a few ideas in mind with regards to what they’d like to tackle in the second installment.

One thing Andy Muschietti says he’d love to do more of in the second installment is marry the two timelines that exist within King’s classic novel.

“That was so important in the book and we didn’t get to explore that here, but I wanted to keep the story of the kids as pure and without interference as I could,” said Muschietti in a recent interview with Variety. “The dialogue between those two timelines with all those flashbacks is so important to the book that I want to bring that back.”

Though Muschietti revealed he’s excited to explore the characters as adults, one thing fans can look forward to is going back to the summer of 1989 where the story began. The director teased that the plan is to incorporate those flashbacks from the past into the present in a way that’ll make them integral to the task at hand in the sequel.

Going back and forth between the two timelines means that the It sequel will also have to cast all of the adult counterparts for the kids. Though the Muschiettis have put a bit of thought into who they might like to see play adult versions of the kids, both are keeping any potential ideas close to the chest.

It is in theaters now, and you can check out Hypable’s review of the horror flick here.
