Tennis star Andy Murray has had a big year professionally, but don’t expect him to spend his downtime reading. And he blames it all on Harry Potter.

The Associated Foreign Press reports on recent remarks by Murray about his leisure time and reading habits. “I don’t read books. I mean, I go on the Internet a lot and read stuff online, but I don’t read books. I haven’t read a book since I was about 14, 15. I got halfway through the third Harry Potter book. It was the first one that was really, really big. It was like 600 pages. I stopped around 200. I haven’t read a book since then.”

We presume Murray, who clearly isn’t up on the realm of Potter, meant he actually stopped at Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when referring to the “really, really big” book.

We often hear about how the Harry Potter books inspired people of all ages to begin reading, but rarely do we ever hear about how it made someone stop. It’s a shame that the mere length of the book turned him off from reading. We presume this means he’s never read other lengthy fantasies like The Lord of the Rings or A Song of Ice and Fire.

25-year-old, Scottish-born Murray won an Olympic gold medal for singles, a silver medal for mixed doubles, and won the U.S. Open this summer.
