Actor Andrew Scott is heading over to Showtime for his next small screen role.

Fresh off of celebrating Fleabag’s incredible wins at the 2019 Emmys, Hot Priest himself, Andrew Scott, has officially landed his next starring role on television.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scott will next be starring in the premium cable network’s upcoming series, Talented Mr. Ripley.

Scott, whose other credits include BBC’s Sherlock and Netflix’s anthology series Black Mirror, will be playing the titular Tom Ripley on the Showtime series.

Based on the character from author Patricia Highsmith’s novels, the adaptation is set in the 1960s and will follow Tom Ripley as he journeys from New York to Italy after a wealthy man hires him to retrieve his son and return him to America.

This, of course, won’t be the first time Talented Mr. Ripley gets the adaptation treatment. Patricia Highsmith’s character got the silver screen treatment in 1999 with a film adaptation that found actor Matt Damon taking on the titular role.

As for Showtime’s adaptation, currently the series has been given a straight to series order comprised of eight episodes, all of which will be written and directed by Steven Zaillian.

In a statement announcing Scott’s involvement with the project, Showtime president of entertainment, Gary Levine, spoke of looking forward to seeing the series brought to life.

“We are so thrilled to have the supremely talented filmmaker, Steve Zaillian, adapt the singular saga Tom Ripley from Patricia Highsmith’s novels as an ongoing series for Showtime,” said Levine. “With Andrew Scott, whose charisma knows no bounds, inhabiting the iconic lead role, we feel confident that this will be a special one.”

There’s currently no word on when we can expect Showtime’s Talented Mr. Ripley, starring Andrew Scott, to premiere.
