After Batkid’s Oscar segment was cut, Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Andrew Garfield visited Disneyland with the young cancer survivor.

Superheroes were being praised during The 86th Academy Awards this past Sunday, and a segment including cancer survivor Miles Scott, aka Batkid, was going to be introduced by Andrew Garfield as the new superhero “Batkid.”

Instead, Chris Evans simply introduced the montage of superheroes and Miles’ following segment was nowhere to be found. Now The Academy has released a statement, which can be read below:

“Due to the nature of a live show, hard decisions sometimes must be made which require the Academy to cut segments due to the logistics of production.” The Academy continued, “Andrew Garfield understood that his segment had to be omitted, and he drove to Disneyland on Monday to spend time with 5-year-old Miles Scott (Batkid) and his family.”

Many sources were reporting that Andrew Garfield backed out of the segment, but those rumors are false. After the segment was cut by The Academy, they sent the boy on a trip to Disneyland and Andrew Garfield tagged along.

Garfield rehearsed the segment with Miles the day prior, but it was pulled just hours before the show’s premiere. An entire set was built for the ‘Batkid’ segment, which included a logo on the walls of the set. You can check out the image of the set in our previous story.

It was later reported that The Academy sent Miles on an equally exciting trip to Disneyland instead, with all expenses paid. We didn’t know until today that Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Andrew Garfield went along with Miles for what had to be one of the best trips to Disneyland ever.

Make-a-Wish, which was who staged Batkid’s original superhero day, has explained that they were “not involved in any way with any decision about what did not or did make it in on-air that evening.”

For now it seems The Academy cut the segment due to time constraints, and while it would have been an inspiring moment, finding out that Andrew Garfield visited Disneyland with Miles is just as heartwarming.

Sitting through a somewhat boring Oscars show for four hours or hanging out with Spider-Man at Disneyland for the day. Which one would you prefer?
