Season finale recap

On the season finale of The Glee Project, Alex, Damian, Lindsay and Samuel competed for the coveted 7-episode arc on the upcoming third season of Glee!

This week’s guest mentor was none other than Glee creator Ryan Murphy. The finalists were asked to sing the Glee staple song “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Damian began but before he even finished his first verse, Ryan stopped him and asked if there was any choreography. All 4 looked at Ryan dumbfounded, before Ryan insisted he bring in some help. Ryan then turned, opened a door, and the other 8 Glee Project contenders voted off throughout the season came running in. Everyone was surprised and it was a really cool moment. After the performance, the top 4 were told that there wouldn’t be a homework assignment winner because from that moment on it was all about figuring out who would win The Glee Project.

The 8 former contenders and 4 finalists were all going to be a part of the big group video this week. They were told they would be performing Pink’s “Raise Your Glass” on a sky scraper in downtown Los Angeles.

Though the video was fun and probably the most energetic video of them all this season, there wasn’t much of a critique by the judges. It was the last chance performances that would determine who would be the ultimate winner.

Each of the final 4 were able to choose their songs for their very last chance performance for Ryan. Lindsay chose “Gimmie Gimmie” from the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. Samuel chose “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. Damian chose “Beyond the Sea” by Bobby Darin. And Alex chose “I Am Changing” from the musical Dreamgirls.

Lindsay was up first, full of an audience of the Glee cast members who were mentors earlier on the show, including Darren Criss, Harry Shum Jr., Ashley Fink, Jenna Ushkawitz, Max Adler and Dot Marie Jones. Lindsay was absolutely fantastic with “Gimmie Gimmie.” It was just her and a piano and very much reminded me of a song Lea Michele would sing on the show. Absolutely fantastic!

Damian was up next with his song “Beyond the Sea” which he dedicated to Hannah and Cameron. Damian has definitely started to fit the Michael Buble form, which was very much evident in this final performance.

Samuel was third up with his guitar singing “Jolene.” The song was very haunting but beautiful. Samuel has always been the more mature personality on the show, and it definitely showed in his performance.

Alex was last up, in drag, singing “I Am Changing.” Alex’s performance was not only the best vocally, but it showed his versatility as an actor. He truly commanded the room with his voice and acting.

After some deliberation with members of Glee, Ryan talked with the judges about who he thought would win The Glee Project.

After the deliberation, the judges announced that Alex and Lindsay did not win The Glee Project. That left Samuel and Damian in the front of the stage. Ryan then announced that Samuel had won The Glee Project. But before Damian had a chance to say anything, Ryan also let Damian know that he had also won The Glee Project!!!

Following that, Ryan said he wasn’t done with Lindsay and Alex either. He told them both that they would have 2-episode arcs on the show as well!

Everyone wins!
