On paper, Anchorman 2 character Ron Burgundy teaming up with Dodge to become the pitchman for a 2014 truck doesn’t sound too funny. But wait until you watch the commercials.

In what Paramount says is “the first time a movie studio and brand tie-in has utilized starring talent, in character, to create original long and short form content,” Dodge and Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) shot commercials touting the 2014 Dodge Durango. In each one, Ron is standing next to a truck and does a bit. In one he’s comparing the truck to a horse in terms of horsepower. In other, he’s ignorant about what “MPG” means.

The legendary news anchor is very entertaining in each of the spots, and these have us eager to see him in theaters this December in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

Paramount says that original material has been recorded for social media including Dodge.com, FunnyorDie.com, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, tumblr, Pinterest and Vine. Presumably they will all appear on the respective channels in the next few weeks. One special commercial will also premiere during Dancing with the Stars this evening on ABC and is specifically tailored to the reality competition.

“Ron Burgundy as the new Dodge Durango spokesperson brings together two iconic American legends,” said Josh Greenstein, CMO of Paramount Pictures in a press release Monday morning. “This campaign was an unprecedented opportunity to collaborate with our filmmakers to create new original content and distribute it worldwide in advance of the long awaited Anchorman sequel release this December. With the personal involvement of Will Ferrell, our writer / director Adam McKay, the comedy team at Funny or Die, and the Dodge creative team at Wieden+Kennedy, we were able to create a truly epic partnership.”

Anchorman 2 is in theaters on Christmas Day.
