Comedian Amy Schumer was offered the Daily Show hosting gig after Jon Stewart’s departure, but turned it down. Why?

Amy Schumer’s star is rising fast, and all kinds of offers are coming her way.

One such offer was the chance to host Comedy Central’s Daily Show, after Jon Stewart steps down later this year.

Stewart’s decision to retire after 16 incredible years was met with shock and sadness, but fans immediately began speculating who might replace him.

Schumer was one of several comedians whose name often came up (other fan favorites included Tina Fey, Michael Che and Kristen Schaal), and apparently, Comedy Central actually offered her the gig!

But as she told The Daily Beast, “I was so honored to be asked and considered. […] But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years — I love not knowing. And I’ve never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, ‘I can’t start now.'”

Both Amy Poehler and Chris Rock were also approached before Comedy Central turned to lesser-known (but very talented) new host Trevor Noah.

Stewart’s final Daily Show episode will air August 6. Noah then picks up the reins on September 28.

Amy Schumer has her own Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer, and her new movie Trainwreck hits cinemas on July 17, 2015.
