The first clip has just been released from David Wain’s new comedy They Came Together that stars Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd.

Any time Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd share the screen together, you know it’ll be something worth checking out, and being directed by David Wain doesn’t hurt.

They Came Together is set to debut at Sundance. The festival runs from January 16-26 this year, and it’s sure to give us some great films. Last year alone The Spectacular Now, The Way, Way Back, Don Jon, Before Midnight, and Fruitvale Station all debuted, so the festival continues to bring us some of the best films year after year.

The first released clip shows us just what we can expect from the film. Wain previously called it “a stupid romantic comedy” and “kind of” a spoof.

The clip features Poehler and Rudd’s characters re-meeting at a bookstore after a bad first encounter, and, well, we won’t spoil the rest. Check it out:

Pretty great, huh? The whole thing had us laughing, but when they got to the fiction part, we knew we were going to love it. The film obviously knows exactly what kind of movie it is, and we couldn’t ask for more than that.

The poster that was released too, is even better. It’ll go down as one of the best of the year, for sure. With its choice of using quotes that don’t say anything about the quality, it really stands out. Will this poster be released everywhere? We can certainly hope so.

Wain also offered this downright hilarious description of the film:

After having already made world-changing cinematic statements on adolescence (Wet Hot American Summer), religion (The Ten), service (Role Models), and community (Wanderlust), I teamed up with Michael Showalter to take on a topic that (to our knowledge) has yet been seen in the movies: ROMANCE — particularly heterosexual romance between two white people.

Our next idea was to mix this romance story with humor – so you could almost call this a Romantic-Comedy, so to speak.

We first worked with Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd on Wet Hot American Summer. They played summer camp counselors in that movie, so it was obviously hard for us to imagine them playing a shopkeeper and a corporate executive, respectively. But thanks to a team of acting coaches and an award™ winning VFX team, we pulled off the illusion.

The clip, poster, and description came together from BuzzFeed (via Collider).

Are you looking forward to ‘They Came Together’?
