After a two week Olympic hiatus, America’s Got Talent was back last night with all new performers – the winning acts submitted through YouTube.

Up first was Clint Carvalho and his Extreme Parrots. His act was a hard to believe flight of a parrot from a tall building across the street and onto his finger inside the theater. It’s something that you just have to see to believe. Howie called it really amazing, and had questioned the authenticity of it when he saw the YouTube clip. Sharon called him the bird whisperer. She thought there would be a second bird and that it was a hoax at first. Howard also wonders what else can come, but is interested to see what’s next. Carvalho promises that he has many different but equal stunts that his birds can perform.

Reverse Order, a pop rock band was up next. They promised to be the band Howard has been looking for. If we were to describe their cover of Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” we would call it highly energetic. Howard said they need more time together. Howie said it looked like they were acting like a rock band, instead of actually being a rock band. Sharon said their song choice was odd for being a rock band and that they should just play gigs every night.

Illusionist Rudy Coby is a magician who tries to make nightmares come true. He did a trick where he made a puppet blow up big and cut itself free and reveals itself to be him. Howard said the act was too long and it was boring and that’s why he never made it in Vegas. Howie agreed that nothing was happening, but he thinks it was different, exciting, and a good trick. Sharon said there was no sense of timing.

Dance group 7 in Unison took the stage next. Howie gave them the ‘X’ because he wasn’t wowed. He thought maybe they should feature a few dancers instead of unity among them all. Sharon said they were very good, but didn’t see what made them unique. Howard said their act was the time when people would have gone away from the TV and gotten a snack. He said their 90 seconds felt like 90 minutes.

Winner of the YouTube vote Drew Erwin was next. Sharon said that he doesn’t have the advantage that others on previous weeks have had of appearing on the stage multiple times. She said he’s a rookie, but that he did very well for someone that has never performed outside of his closet (Howie asks if he’s coming out of the closet tonight). Howie said that he has good talent, but he needs time and he came off as green. Howard said he’s not ready for the competition yet and that he needs to put in the time.

Funny lady Melinda Hill brought a much needed female voice to the great cast of stand-up comedians in this season of AGT. Unfortunately, she didn’t get laughs. Howard said she started strong, but lost the audience and says she picked the wrong material. Howie agreed on the material and said her strong material in her YouTube audition was what made her funny then. Sharon felt bad for her and agreed that her material wasn’t the best.

Eric Buss‘s act is a novelty act that can’t really be explained. Howie doesn’t know that it’s a million dollar act, but it might be a million dollar birthday party. Howard said all Buss did was make a mess of his stage. He said it’s boring and a waste of time, and that the guy needs to get a real job. Sharon said the machines that he used were very clever.

Air guitarist Romeo Dance Cheetah tried to prove that air “guitaring” is a really talent. All Sharon could say is that he’s good at mime. Howard said it isn’t a talent and it doesn’t even look like he’s playing guitar. Howie said that where other contestants are green, Romeo Dance Cheetah has put too much time into this and he needs to stop.

The Magic of Puck wants to win AGT so he can perform magic in a location where he can see his family. His dancing hanky act isn’t an original trick, but it’s very professional looking. Howard said he does this kind of magic very well, and he’s lucky that tonight’s talent level is so weak. Howie says he’s got talent and luck (he performed on a night with lackluster talent). Sharon says his presentation is professional, but he needs his act to be bigger.

16-year-old singer Bria Kelly said she is meant to play music for the rest of her life. Her performance was one of the first country performances in a while. Howard thinks she’ll go on and that she needs to keep making good song choices. Sharon says that she was good but needs to not shout. Howie says that she’s the standout.

Cast in Bronze plays an instrument called the Caroline. He didn’t choose the Caroline, the Caroline chose him. He says the instrument made out of bells was passed on to him, and it’s one of the best kept musical secrets in 500 years. No word on why he’s allowed to take it to national television then. Sharon was very confused. Howie wondered about the process of putting this act together. Howard said if Hell had a musician, it would be Cast in Bronze.

The last act to perform was Academy of Villains. It was clear they were the class act of the night. Howard said that the YouTube auditions brought one really good thing, and it was them. Sharon said it was worth the other bad acts to see them. Howie said that they really did save the best for last, and that they were so original.

Last night’s episode featured much more bad than good, and there are few sure things to advance.

Our predictions to advance: Academy of Villains, Bria Kelly, The Magic of Puck, and Clint Carvalho and his Extreme Parrots.

America’s Got Talent returns tonight at 9 PM ET/PT.
