America’s Got Talent was back last night for a second night in Austin, Texas. Here’s our recap of last night’s auditions.

First of all, I need to address a mistake from yesterday. The TV watch for last night’s episode gave the wrong time because NBC changed the starting time sometime between Sunday night and Tuesday evening from its usual 9 p.m. starting time to an earlier starting time of 8 p.m., and I was unaware. NBC didn’t do a good job of making this known in the episode the night before, and I didn’t notice it on NBC’s website. I apologize if any of you tuned in at the wrong time.

The first act to take the stage was the Aurora Light Painters. With lights as their brushes and the air as their canvas, they made some very interesting pictures. The technology is absolutely amazing, it’s a very original act, and I can’t wait to see it again.

Eric & Olivia are a musical duo with Eric playing the guitar and Olivia singing. Olivia has a very jazzy voice and is in my opinion one of the best singers to come on the show so far this year. Where they set themselves apart is by rearranging the music and making it something of their own. This reminded me of something you would see on The Voice, but unlike contestants on The Voice, Eric & Olivia don’t have a music superstar behind them. I’m a bit perplexed on why they are a duo and why it’s not just Olivia. Eric is a good guitar player, but Olivia doesn’t really need him. They might have to play the “Eric is in love with Olivia but Olivia has ‘friend-zoned’ Eric” to warrant them being a group as the show progresses.

Eric Dittelman was easily the most compelling act of the night. Dittelman is a mind reader who had host Nick Cannon duct tape half-dollars over his eyes, cover that with more duct tape, cover that with a blindfold, and then proceed to wrap more three more layers of duct tape around his eyes. Dittelman was able to say exactly what all three judges drew, and this completely wowed the audience. I was perplexed myself. As mind reading isn’t possible, this is clearly an illusion. Like any other magic trick, you don’t see what is really going on which makes it seem real. I am very curious to see how Dittelman will appear to read minds next time as it was very entertaining this time.

Andrew De Leon never sang in front of anybody. Ever. He has always been a shy person, so his decision to come on AGT couldn’t have been made lightly. Dressing in the gothic style, everybody in attendance was very surprised when he sang opera, much less sang it beautifully. It would have been nice for the TV viewer to have this same experience, but NBC chose not to allow that by teasing De Leon’s voice almost every week. Nonetheless, the guy is extremely talented, and he should do well in the competition.

America’s Got Talent will be back next Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT, unless NBC decides to change the time around again with auditions from Tampa Bay. The first set from Tampa Bay was broadcast last week.
