David O. Russell’s American Hustle is set to be released this Christmas, and really cool character posters that depict the style of Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and more have just been released.

The most exciting aspect of the film is perhaps its stellar cast. It includes Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Louis C.K., Robert De Niro, Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Rohm, Dawn Olivieri, Jack Huston, and Michael Pena.

Bale, Cooper, Lawrence, Adams, and De Niro will all be working with Russell for the second time. They all starred in one of his two most recent films, The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook. Jennifer Lawrence and Christian Bale of course won Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for their roles in Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter, respectively.

As we’ve said in the past, we’re interested to see Louis C.K. in the film. He’s perhaps the world’s premiere stand-up comedian at the moment. His work on his show Louie shows that he has the dramatic chops that American Hustle will require. C.K. was great in his limited role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, released earlier this year.

As should be expected given the director, the all-star cast, the story, and the prime release date, American Hustle is likely to be a big player at the Academy Awards. It’s predicted that it’ll be a player all across the board. Notably, it has good chances of being at least nominated in Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Amy Adams), and Best Supporting Actor (Bradley Cooper). Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence also have decent odds at being nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting, respectively, though those nominations look far less likely at the current time.

Here’s the trailer. In today’s world of showing too much in trailers, American Hustle stands out in the fact that it doesn’t show too much.

Here’s the official plot summary:

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock the States, “American Hustle” tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, “American Hustle” defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.
