Believe it or not, Jessica Lange did not jump at the chance to star in American Horror Story when Ryan Murphy developed the series. Now, she’s revealing just how he got her to sign up, plus her views on the current season.

Jessica Lange sat down to talk about her recent Golden Globe nomination for her role in American Horror Story and got to talking about when her journey with Ryan Murphy on the hit series really began. Lange revealed to The Wrap that she had to be talked into joining in the first place and was surprised at the show’s success. Lange explained, “When I got involved in this it really was because Ryan sweet-talked me into doing this, which I think he has a certain talent for. I just kind of jumped in blindly. I had no idea what to expect. So when it became so wildly popular right from the beginning, that surprised me, and then when the performance got the kind of attention it did, that surprised me.”

Even though she may have been hesitant at first she sure doesn’t question Murphy’s vision anymore. When asked to sign on for the third season she jumped at the chance even though not much about the season has been decided. Lange stated that there has only been loose talk about season 3 and that nothing has been decided. Although she trusts Murphy she joked that she’s not sure he can top the first two seasons saying, “I don’t know how they’re going to top it next year. Ryan’s amazing that way. He definitely finds something that he can pursue for that length of time and still find the novelty and the interest in it.”

Are you surprised Lange had to be talked into joining American Horror Story?
