American Horror Story writer Douglas Petrie confirms that the setting for the shows fourth installment will be a carnival theme. Read on for the full details.

Fan created posters depicting a creepy carnival tent and various circus performers took the internet by storm well before Ryan Murphy and company were willing to discuss the theme for American Horror Story‘s fourth season. However, writer Douglas Petrie may have confirmed the general theme for the fourth season is indeed a carnival of horrors.

In the Nerdist News podcast, Moira Kirkland and Ben Blacker used their best play on words to convince Petrie the news is already out there. Stating that the fourth season was confirmed earlier this year as a “Carnival,” Petrie replies at the 33 minute marker

Yes, it does not have a title… but that is the idea. That’s very roughly the idea.”

The question now is, how roughly will that idea tie into season 4? So far the only tidbits viewers have to go on from here remain that the 1950s is one of two time periods the show will take place in and that Jessica Lange is working on her German accent. Seeing as this will be Jessica Lange’s final season, the biting humor of the show can certainly cater to her role as a ring leader of sorts.

Murphy did confirm in an exit interview from the show’s third installment that no one on the internet has guessed the upcoming season’s theme “completely.” What do you think? Can viewers continue to circulate their fan artwork with conviction, or are you waiting for confirmation from the man in charge?
