American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has cast actress Christine Ebersole in a recurring role for season 3!

In an interview with Deadline, Murphy says he does casting on a daily basis of American Horror Story: Coven. The most recent being Ebersole, who will have a recurring role. He describes her character as a “Good Witch-type of gal.”

Murphy also explained his reasoning for having a large female cast in Coven. “I’ve always loved really strong female characters; I’ve always loved writing them. What I like to do is, go after women who I’ve always admired, like Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett.”

He also admitted to approaching all three main actresses for their roles. Saying he wanted to give them roles they’ve never done before. Murphy explained, “I think actresses get really excited about that.”

While most of the cast is all female, Murphy confirmed he will be adding more males to the cast. “I’m getting ready to cast the big male lead who comes in on Episode 6 as Jessica Lange’s love interest,” says Murphy. “I’ve been meeting with actors for that. I don’t have any idea who that’s going to be.”

You may know Ebersole from Royal Pains, Related, or Saturday Night Live.

American Horror Story season 3 will also star Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Kathy Bates, Gabourey Sidibe, Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone, Emma Roberts, Denis O’Hare, Alexandra Breckenridge, and Lily Rabe.
