American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy explains the revelations on last night’s episode 2×12 “Continuum” and teases what to expect on next week’s season finale 2×13 “Madness Ends.”

Last night undid some of the happy endings from last week’s episode of American Horror Story. Kit is now a single father after Alma killed Grace. Lana seems to all but forgotten her crusade to shut down Briarcliff and save Jude, while Jude is left slowing losing more of her self at the asylum.

Ryan Murphy talked with Entertainment Weekly and explained that Lana is just dealing with what happened to her the best way she knows how. He defends her character saying, “After what Lana went through, if she wants to throw on some lip gloss and go on f—ing Dick Cavett? No, I don’t think she’s horrible at all. I think she hardened up and I think lost her way, which we will find in the last episode to chilling results.”

In the next episode, which is also the season finale, Lana will end up coming face to face with her son, who has become the new Bloody Face. Murphy gushes that it’s his favorite of the season and teases, “The whole thing is done almost as a documentary with Lana current day looking back on her life and doing a 60 Minutes-esque. That plays with like 10 different time periods.” He also revealed that he cried when he saw the final product adding that, “It’s very, very emotional and sad.”

When mother and son come together it will be very emotional, says Murphy. This was done because he felt it was important in the finale to give a sense of kindness and peace in a season that was filled with darkness. Murphy also said, “All the questions are answered and more. The question I get asked the most is, ‘Who or what chopped off Adam Levine’s arm?’ We dedicate an entire cold opening to that.” We’ll also be seeing how Johnny learned his father was the original Bloody Face.

He also teased that the Monsignor and Angel of Death will be returning for the season finale. We’ll also see more of Kit’s fate now that he’s a single father. And, of course, more deaths. Murphy states that only one person will be left standing at the end of the episode.

Who do you think is going to be the last one standing?
