Ryan Murphy and company do not shy away from powerful leading ladies and season 4 of American Horror Story is no exception. Check out the latest addition to the cast!

The woman behind the hit sensation, “Lady Marmalade,” is putting her music on hold for a four episode run on American Horror Story: Freak Show. Following a three week run in After Midnight on Broadway, Patti LaBelle will join Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett as a guest star.

LaBelle will play the mother of Gabourey Sidibe. Her role is much more than a motherly figure, though. LaBelle will begin to unravel the secrets of the clown killer, Twisty.

Fans of American Horror Story are in for quiet the season according to executives and the cast of the show. This will be Jessica Lange’s last appearance on the show, at least in a leading role capacity, but the description lives up to her other roles, as the ring leader striving to save her ragtag group of freak show performers in Jupiter, Florida.

The other cast members also have their identities sorted out, receiving names for their season 4 roles:

• Emma Roberts is playing Maggie
• Sarah Paulson is playing Bette and Dot Tattler
• Kathy Bates is playing Effil Darling
• Chiklis is playing Wendell del Tolito
• Angela Bassett is playing Desiree Dupre
• Evan Peters is playing Jimmy Darling
• Jessica Lange is playing Elsa Mars

The villain of the show is newcomer John Carroll Lynch. The character has been described as the scariest creation of the show to date.

Patti LaBelle is the second singing Patti to join the ranks of American Horror Story following Patti LaPone’s guest spot last season as the uptight murderous neighbor.

Thanks, TV Line.
