Today FX announced that the American Horror Story: Coven premiere release date would follow tradition and would take place around Halloween 2013.

American Horror Story: Murder House (season 1) and American Horror Story: Asylum both premiered in October of their respective years. For season 3 FX is planning to continue the spooky tradition of scheduling the premiere release date around the Halloween season of October. According to TV Line, “As per tradition, American Horror Story: Coven — the third chapter in Ryan Murphy’s creeptastic anthology — will roll out in time for Halloween.”

At the start of the month it was also officially revealed by show creator Ryan Murphy that the show would focus on witches. Commenting, “It’s a really cool story that we’ve been talking about for a couple of years, and this seemed like the year to do it.”

In addition we also know that while it will be filming in multiple locations they have started production in New Orleans. Fans can also expect to see the show’s star Jessica Lange to be going against newcomer Kathy Bates frequently. Murphy teased he wants a lot of scenes of the two characters, described as frenemies, going at it.

American Horror Story: Coven will star Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Kathy Bates, and Lily Rabe.
