FX has finally released a promotional video for American Horror Story: Asylum featuring the cast that shows snippets of upcoming episodes. It’s the first to give fans a real look at the personalities of the characters.

The promo appears to be a preview of at least the first episode of the second season of American Horror Story. “Welcome to Briarcliff” will be airing Oct. 17 on FX at 10 p.m. The episode synopsis reveals that the asylum is the home to the serial killer Bloody Face, who we know will be after the characters known as the lovers. It describes the asylum as having terrifying evils that blur the line between reality and insanity.

The promo features the lovers, played by Adam Levine and Jenna Dewan-Tatum, going to Briarcliff on their haunted honeymoon. When they enter the asylum, it has been abandoned and is in shambles. As the couple begins to get frisky, they hear something in the background.

At this point, the promo shifts to the past at the time when Sister Jude, played by Jessica Lange, ran the asylum. Lana, played by Sarah Paulson, enters the asylum to speak with Sister Jude, who claims to have known that the journalist was an atheist the minute she walked into the room. However, Lana doesn’t seem to be afraid of the nun. Rather, she tells her girlfriend that deep down she knows there is a real darkness at the asylum. The journalist is desperate to find a way into the asylum and its secrets. At the end, it shows her drugged and strapped down to a bed.

The promo also shows what really goes on at the asylum. Dr. Thredson, played by Zachary Quinto, tries to confront Sister Jude about the conditions of the asylum. It then flashes to Dr. Arden, played by James Cromwell, getting ready to operate on one of the patients. He tells the patient Kit, played by Evan Peters, that he won’t be using an anesthetic. Meanwhile, Monsignor Timothy Howard, played by Joseph Fiennes, warns Dr. Thredson that while times may have changed, the nature of evil has not.
