Amber Heard is joining the DC Cinematic Universe as Mera, queen of Atlantis and wife of Aquaman.

The DCCU is quickly expanding their world as we approach the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is setting up Justice League Part 1 (2017) and will continue to affect the stories of all those DC movies moving forward.

Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman will be released prior to Justice League, but once the collaborative film hits cinemas, we’ll be seeing Mera for the first time, as played by Amber Heard.

Talking to Entertainment Tonight, the actress speaks about the fitting for her costume.

She describes it as half suit of armor and half scales, and considering DC’s tendency toward dark and realistic costumes, we’re sure this one is going to be incredible.

Below you can see an image of Mera from the New 52 comics:

We don’t know much about her character in the movies yet, considering she’ll be appearing first in Justice League and then later in Aquaman. Will the two already be married?

Here’s a fictional biography for the character:

“In her first chronological appearance, Mera is shown to be fleeing the criminal Leron, who seized control of her kingdom, when she arrives on Earth and meets Aquaman and Aqualad, who vow to help her. Leron captures them, imprisoning Aquaman and Mera in Dimension Aqua. Aided by the water spirit known as Quisp, Aquaman manages to free Mera and defeats Leron. Mera abdicates the throne of Xebel to Queen V’lana, and returns to Atlantis to marry Aquaman. Soon after, they had a son named Arthur Curry, Jr., also known as Aquababy.”

Amber Heard has appeared in Zombieland and The Danish Girl, and has many other titles to her name. Her most recent film is London Fields.
