After filling out its roster of writers and directors, Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series is rumored to be in talks to cast Markella Kavenagh for the fantasy epic.

Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings has slowly been putting together an impressive list of crew behind the camera, with Breaking Bad scribe Gennifer Hutchison and Bryan Cogman, known for his extensive work on Game Of Thrones, rumored to be part of the writer’s room, and tapping director J.A. Bayona of Jurassic World and The Orphanage fame.

However, while the show has been creating its fellowship of the creatives, there hasn’t been much news about who might be stepping out in front of the camera.

While both Amazon and Kavenagh’s reps have yet to comment on the casting, Variety reported earlier this afternoon that the casting news drought might be at an end, with relatively unknown actress Markella Kavenagh rumored to be in talks to sign with the streamer’s bid to be the next Game of Thrones.

This wouldn’t be Kavenagh’s first role, as she’s appeared in the Australian film Romper Stomper and had roles in the shows Picnic at Hanging Rock and The Cry, but it would undoubtedly be her biggest one. While no other details have been revealed, sources say that she would be playing a character named Tyra.

Currently, we know very little about the Lord of the Rings series, although we are certain that it isn’t a remake or reboot of Peter Jackson’s award-winning trilogy. Instead, Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series will take place prior to the events of Peter Jackson’s trilogy. It will be set in The Second Age (the films were set during The Third Age), a time in which the rings of power — including Sauron’s ring of power which caused so much trouble in the third age — were created.
