Amazon released a longer look at their anthology series The Romanoffs, and it looks like this show is packed full of royal drama.

The actual Romanoff family might have been overthrown years and years ago, but that doesn’t mean that the family drama is over. In Amazon’s new anthology series that follows eight individuals who believe themselves to be descendants from the doomed Russian royal family, we see that royal blood can (whether its real or perceived remains to be seen) can be quite the burden.

The Romanoffs is the first series from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner. And after checking out the full-length trailer for the show, that engaging drama and compelling storytelling of utterly flawed but fascinating people that made us all fall in love with Mad Men is alive and well with The Romanoffs.

From the trailer we see glimpses into the eight stories we’ll see in the new series, and the eight individuals whose personal lives and the drama and turmoil within those lives. Each individual, in some way, believes their struggles to somehow be tied to their prestigious heritage.

However, while some might find royal heritage to be a blessing, The Romanoffs makes it seem as though belonging to this particular royal line isn’t all its cracked up to be. As one character says in the trailer, “you’d think that royal blood dilutes over time, but the poison survives.”

We will have to wait a bit longer to see for ourselves what exactly that royal blood “poison” is, but this trailer has got us ready for some royal drama. The Romanoffs premieres on Amazon Prime on October 12.
