HBO and online retailer Amazon announced this morning that the pay cabler’s line up of original series will be coming to Prime Instant Video.

Prime Instant Video will be the only place to stream HBO’s original series, miniseries, and specials (outside of their own streaming service HBO GO which requires an HBO subscription).

The line up of shows coming to Amazon’s streaming service includes The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Big Love, Deadwood, Eastbound & Down, Family Tree, Enlightened, Treme, early seasons of Boardwalk Empire and True Blood, as well as mini-series like Band of Brothers, John Adams.

Each season of a show will be added three years after it airs on HBO, meaning shows like Veep, Girls, and The Newsroom won’t be immediately available at launch but will arrive in the coming years.

The exclusive streaming rights to HBO shows are a big plus for Amazon who’s in competition with Netflix.

“HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking, beloved and award-winning shows in television history, with more than 115 Emmys amongst the assortment of shows coming to Prime members next month,” said Brad Beale, Director of Content Acquisition for Amazon in a press release this morning. “HBO original content is some of the most-popular across Amazon Instant Video—our customers love watching these shows. Now Prime members can enjoy a collection of great HBO shows on an unlimited basis, at no additional cost to their Prime membership.”

HBO series will begin to appear within the Prime Instant Video catalogue on May 21. You must have a yearly subscription (priced at $99) to Amazon Prime to access the service.
