Following an accidental announcement this morning, Amazon has announced the next generation Kindle Paperwhite which boasts GoodReads integration and technical improvements.

Making good on their acquisition of GoodReads this past March, the new Kindle Paperwhite allows you to easily add Amazon purchases to your GoodReads library. From there you can rate and review each book. Additional integration allows readers to find recommendations based on what friends and the general public are reading according to their GoodReads profiles.

Other improvements in the new Kindle Paperwhite include darker text against a whiter screen, a 25% faster processor for quicker page turning, and a new ability to flip through a book without losing your place.

The new Kindle Paperwhite will begin shipping on September 30 and can be pre-ordered now with special offers on the screen for $119. The ad-free Kindle can be ordered for $139.

Amazon also announced today a new feature called Kindle MatchBook whereby select authors will allow you to purchase Kindle versions of your existing Amazon physical book purchases for a reduced cost. MatchBook prices will vary from free to $2.99.

The Kindle is far and away the most popular eBook reading device on the market thanks to its low price, the slew of features, and Amazon’s built-in popularity.
