Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series finally has an official premiere date!

The countdown has commenced for J.R.R. Tolkien fans who just can’t wait to return to Middle-earth.

On Monday (August 2), Amazon Studios kicked off the week by revealing that its highly anticipated Lord of the Rings series will officially be premiering on Friday, September 2, 2022, with new episodes dropping weekly.

The exciting season premiere announcement comes just as filming on season 1 of the fantasy series wraps production out in New Zealand.

In addition, the studio also revealed a first look image from the series, which you can check out below.

“I can’t express enough just how excited we all are to take our global audience on a new epic journey through Middle-earth!” Said Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke in a statement. “Our talented producers, cast, creative, and production teams have worked tirelessly in New Zealand to bring this untold and awe-inspiring vision to life.”

Added show runners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay: “As Bilbo says, ‘Now I think I am quite ready to go on another journey.’ Living and breathing Middle-earth these many months has been the adventure of a lifetime. We cannot wait for fans to have the chance to do so as well.”

Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series is set to feature an ensemble cast comprised of actors Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

Others involved behind the camera include executive producers on the project include Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belén Atienza, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, Sharon Tal Yguado, co-executive producer Wayne Che Yip, director Charlotte Charlotte Brändström, and producer Christopher Newman.

Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series debuts exclusively via Prime Video on Friday, September 2, 2022.
