Amazon could be on the brink of turning one of your favorite baseball movies into a television series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the online streaming platform is currently in the process of developing a series based off the beloved baseball classic, A League of Their Own.

The new series will be co-written by Mozart in the Jungle’s Will Graham and Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson, who sound as though they’re taking some liberties with the original source material.

In other words, fans shouldn’t expect to see their favorite characters taking center stage on the upcoming half-hour comedy series.

Just like Penny Marshall’s 1992 film, the story will take place in 1943, but this time it’ll center on telling the story of a new team of Rockford Peaches, focusing on surviving their first season in the American Girls Professional Baseball League.

A series would also give this new iteration of A League of Their Own the opportunity to dive deeper into some of the subject matters the original 1992 film highlighted, including those of prejudice and equality.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a major studio has tried their hand at adapting A League of Their Own for the small screen.

Back in 1993, CBS attempted to create a sit-com based off the popular film featuring original cast members Megan Cavanagh and Tracy Reiner, who played Marla Hooch and Betty “Spaghetti,” respectively.

Unfortunately, the CBS comedy was short-lived, airing a mere six episodes before the network pulled the plug on the adaptation.

Currently, there’s no word on whether Amazon will sign off on Jacobsen and Graham’s proposed adaptation, but we’ll be interested to find out more about the series if they end up giving it the green light.
