Amazing Spider-Man 2 writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner have signed on to pen Amazing Spider-Man 3’s script.

The three writers will reunite for the third film in Sony’s new Amazing Spider-Man franchise, as Amazing Spider-Man 2 works its way through post-production. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 release date is set for May 2, 2014.

In somewhat of a surprising move, Sony announced back in June that they would be filming Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 over the next four years.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will hit theaters June 10, 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 will be released May 4, 2018. Sony Pictures explained that, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”

Director Marc webb just finished filming Amazing Spider-Man 2 and it’s assumed that he will continue directing the next two films. Having filmed in New York, there were daily set photos released, along with video of Andrew Garfield playing basketball with neighborhood kids in his Spidey suit.

THR reports that Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci received executive producer credit for Amazing Spider-Man 2, while all three writers shared screenwriting credit, and James Vanderbilt was given story credit. For the third film though, all three writers are expected to share story and screenwriting credit.

Kurtzman and Orci will be very busy with Amazing Spider-Man 3 in their schedule, which includes Star Trek 3, as well as producing the reboot of The Mummy franchise. Jeff Pinkner, who wrote for the tv show Lost has shared a longtime partnership with Orci and Kurtzman. The team has worked together on Alias, and Pinkner was an executive producer of Fringe.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 release date is set for May 2, 2014. Stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will be returning as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, Jamie Foxx (Electro) will also be in the film, along with Sally Fields, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, and Colm Feore.
