New Amazing Spider-Man 2 set photos have been released, featuring Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and her clothing may reveal a major plot spoiler for the Spider-Man sequel.

Director Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been in production for the last few months, and today we have some new set photos which at first glance simply give fans another look at actress Emma Stone on location. A further look into the images (Gwen’s clothing) and The Amazing Spider-Man comic may reveal a major spoiler. Take a look at the images below:

Possible plot spoilers below

In the images we see that Emma Stone is wearing a very similar outfit as Gwen Stacy when she was killed in The Amazing Spider-Man comic. Could this be a coincidence, possibly, or it could simply be director Marc Webb (who is a massive comic book fan) toying with his audience.

In the comics, Gwen is thrown from a bridge, where Spider-Man catches her, and the whiplash effect she underwent when Spidey’s webbing stopped her so suddenly was, in fact, what killed her. Webb may be trying to throw us for a loop by linking the film and the comic together with the distinctive outfit, but we most likely won’t know until the film hits theaters May 2, 2014.

In the last few weeks we’ve gotten quite a few batches of set photos which gave us our first look at Emma Stone and Shailene Woodley on set together, along with some other images which feature Andrew Garfield in the new Spider-Man suit. Jamie Foxx’s character, Electro, has also showed up in some set photos looking very blue.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be hitting theaters in 3D on May 2, 2014. Stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will be returning as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, and Shailene Woodley will be joining them as Mary Jane Watson, along with Jamie Foxx (Electro), Sally Fields, Paul Giamatti, and Colm Feore.
