Did you catch the American Music Awards last night? Taylor Swift, Iggy Azalea and One Direction were among this year’s winners.
The American Music Awards (AMAs) celebrate both American and international music, presenting awards to a variety of genre artists and showing off their talents.
It was created by Dick Clark in 1973 for ABC, and this year, the special Dick Clark Award for Excellence was presented by Diana Ross, and given to Taylor Swift. She expressed her gratitude in a gracious acceptance speech:
One Direction ran away with the Artist of the Year award, with Frozen winning Top Soundtrack.
Iggy Azalea was nominated for a total six awards, winning both Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Album.
These were actually Iggy Azalea’s first first ever awards, according to her. She performed her “Booty” collaboration with Jennifer Lopez as the closing act, which you can watch right here:
Lorde was nominated for three awards, and while she didn’t win in any of her categories, she appeared (following an introduction by Elizabeth Banks) to perform her Mockingjay, Part 1 title song, “Yellow Flicker Beat,” live for the first time.
