Making its way around the internet this week is a Harry Potter fan theory that uproots the ending of the series to redefine what “The Boy Who Lived” means.

Via a very long info graphic, the Potterhead suggests a different ending for the series using non-canon support. In other words, this theory can’t be analyzed by re-reading the book.

The creator’s proposal: What if “The Boy Who Lived” meant that Harry and Voldemort could only be killed by the other? So once Harry killed Voldemort, there was no way for the boy with the scar to ever die. He would live forever, thus never seeing all of his passed loved ones. That’s just sad.

In our opinion, one flaw in this idea is where the writer says “it’s made clear to us that death is the only way he’ll ever ben with is loved ones.” Yes, he has lost several of his loved ones, but still many of his beloved are alive: Hagrid, McGonagall, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, his children, and the list goes on.

The writer is saying that Rowling may’ve missed an opportunity when writing the finale. While it’s an interesting take on the story, we don’t think it’s necessarily a better ending than the one Rowling wrote in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And Harry has already encountered enough sadness in his life. Did he really need any more?

What do you think of this ‘Potter’ theory that’s gone viral?

Let’s hope Rowling doesn’t hear about this idea so she’s not distracted from writing her new Fantastic Beasts movie series.
