Newly rediscovered footage of filming on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 reveals a scene where Draco steps in to help Harry kill Lord Voldemort.

A quick clip from one of the many Harry Potter “Making Of” documentaries depicts Draco (Tom Felton) stepping away from his family and tossing Harry (Dan Radcliffe) a wand as the Boy Wizard and Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) get ready to duel. Watch below:

The scene is making its rounds on the internet because of what it would’ve said about Draco, and the fact that it’s a big diversion from Rowling’s book.

We’ve always known that Draco held conflicted feelings towards Harry but was forced to outwardly take the evil road due to his upbringing. In an interview conducted after the publication of Deathly Hallows, Rowling said that Draco held a “grudging gratitude towards Harry for saving his life.”

This alternate scene would’ve made that gratitude abundantly clear. It also would’ve been a scene come true for Drarry shippers.

While it’s hard to see the specific shot where Draco tosses Harry his wand, we did a little digging, and it turns out that director David Yates confirmed this scene happened in an interview four years ago:

“There was also a moment where Tom… we had this scene. In this scene where Tom throws Harry a wand, which is a big deal – a hugely different ending,” Yates told Snitch Seeker in November 2011. “It’s not a different ending, it’s a different moment. And we thought, ‘Oh my god, is that too much of a turnaround for Malfoy?’ So Malfoy suddenly becomes a good guy – so that’s what Steve [Kloves, screenwriter] wrote.”

Yates describes the scene as “uplifting” and wanted to include it in the final cut, but producers David Heyman and David Barron voted against it. “They didn’t feel it was most effective for the character.”

Nevertheless, the fact that they wrote this scene and went as far as to shoot it shows that they wanted to give Draco a moment to prove his worth to Harry and the greater good.
