It’s official: The Divergent finale Allegiant will be split into two movies.
The news should surprise no one, considering the trend kicked off by Deathly Hallows and continued in Breaking Dawn, the upcoming Mockingjay, and The Hobbit. Divergent might still be in theaters, but Summit is already looking ahead to the end of the series.
Allegiant, Part 1 will be released March 18, 2016 and Allegiant, Part 2 will be released March 24, 2017.
Fans naturally took to Twitter to share their joy or frustration over this turn of events and made the phrase “#Allegiant” trend on Twitter throughout Friday morning.
Veronica Roth’s Allegiant was divisive amongst fans when it was published last year, and this film looks set to be no different. Of particular concern is where this final film will be split.
