Amanda Ripley survived the events of 2014’s Alien video game, but as Alien: Isolation‘s sequel Blackout proves, she’s not out of the woods quite yet.

Choosing to develop this Alien: Isolation sequel on iOS, Android, and Amazon devices was a decisive move from Twentieth Century Fox, as the hit console game Alien: Isolation may have felt better if its sequel also landed on home consoles.

Nevertheless, the Alien: Blackout teaser does seem just as terrifying as Alien: Isolation, with Amanda struggling to maintain downed computer systems before the Xenomorph can catch up to her and her crew. The game looks stressful, exciting, and terrifying. Imagining playing Blackout while wearing headphones in bed is enough to set chills up and down your spine.

The official website describes the mobile game as one in which players must make decisions between saving themselves or sacrificing members of the surviving crew. This choose-your-own-adventure type of storytelling is a popular trend as of late, with Telltale’s The Walking Dead reaching its series finale early this year, and Netflix’s Bandersnatch taking the world up by storm.

Alien: Blackout will serve as a direct Alien: Isolation sequel, picking up right after Amanda was discovered floating in space with a Xenomorph still lurking around in her escape pod. Facehugger and chestburster shenanigans are bound to ensue as Amanda seeks survival and further closure about her missing mother.

Both Alien: Isolation and its sequel Alien: Blackout are set somewhere in the 57-year-long time gap between the 1979 Alien film and 1986’s Aliens. The latest title in the Alien series to hit theaters was 2017’s Alien: Covenant.

Alien: Blackout releases for iPhone and iPad on January 24, 2019, with the Android and Amazon device release dates TBA. It retails for $4.99 on the Apple App Store, and is described as being a “premium mobile game” on the Google Play Store.
