20th Century Fox has shuffled the release dates for two of their most anticipated 2017 movies: Alien: Covenant and Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
Fans of Ridley Scott’s long-running Alien series will be very excited by this news, while those eagerly awaiting the follow-up to Kingsman: The Secret Service will be left disappointed.
Originally, Matthew Vaughn’s Golden Circle was scheduled to arrive in June 2017 while Covenant was set for October (though recently moved up to August).
But 20th Century Fox has now moved Covenant up to May 19, 2017, pushing Kingsman: The Golden Circle back to October 6 in the process.
Usually, big CGI productions are delayed to allow for more post-production time, but evidently Ridley Scott knows what he’s doing since he’s able to bring us Alien: Covenant so much sooner than expected. There’s even a poster now!
Covenant takes place some time after Prometheus, with both Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender reprising their roles. They’re joined by a new team of scientists that include two Fantastic Beasts stars, Katherine Waterston and Carmen Ejogo.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle continues the story from the wildly popular Secret Service. Eggsy (Taron Egerton), Merlin (Mark Strong), Roxy (Sophie Cookson) and the surprisingly not-dead Harry (Colin Firth) are joined by a slew of big stars such as Channing Tatum, Elton John, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges.
Finally, Fox may finally have set a release date for James Cameron’s Avatar — at least a slot has been freed up for an untitled project on December 21, 2018, which fits their target of a Christmas 2018 release date, and gives Cameron plenty of time to finally begin rolling out some actual proof that this is happening at all!
