Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat is embarking on a new adventure as the narrator for a new virtual reality journey called The Key.

Alia Shawkat is joining in on an exciting new project called The Key. Shawkat will serve as the narrator for the film, which is set to make its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.

However, The Key isn’t just your average movie. As Deadline reports, the film is from Lucid Dreams Productions and is a “virtual reality experience” for viewers.

The Key is directed by Celine Tricart produced by Gloria Bradbury. In the film, Shawkat’s narration will take viewers through this immersive journey, and will present viewers with moments of intense choices. The film’s basic journey is told through dreams, and viewers are taken through four phases where viewers will have to make tough choices, escape danger, and discover the truth behind the movie’s eponymous key.

Finding the balance in a narrator that can engage viewers and bring the story to life while also instructing the audience on how to proceed can be a tough one. However, the team behind The Key is certain that Alia Shawkat is more than up for the task.

As Tricart told Deadline, “We are thrilled to be working with Alia on The Key. With her high attention to detail she brings the voice we need to complete this project. Finding the exact quantity of information you need to communicate in a VR experience is tricky. Alia offers the right balance of information and emotion”

The Key will premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in the Immersive Storyscapes category. The movie is made to be compatible with the Oculus VR for Good.

It’s really exciting to see filmmakers explore ways that immersive technology can impact storytelling, and we can’t wait to hear what viewers think of The Key. One thing is for sure, with an awesome narrator like Alia Shawkat, this is one you won’t want to miss.
