The actor who played Cato in The Hunger Games film in March of this year says he’s had meetings to play the lead male role in Divergent.

Alexander Ludwig tweeted the following on Friday night:

The character Four is the love interest of Tris, who we learned earlier this week will likely be played by Shainlene Woodley. Four is the instructor of the transfer initiates.

Actors don’t normally share that they’ve had talks about starring in films until deals are signed, so we think Ludwig may’ve wanted to cause some waves by sending out a tease. He could’ve felt particularly motivated to share the information after seeing Woodley’s casting. If he received the role, it’d be a big boon to his career.

Divergent is based on the book of the same name by Veronica Roth. It is the first in a series – the second book is titled Insurgent. A third book is in the works but does not yet have a release date. The film is being developed by Summit/Lionsgate, who also owns The Hunger Games.

The story follows Tris, who lives in a future Chicago that is separated in five factions in order to stabilize society. At age 16 each citizen must choose a permanent faction. For Tris things don’t go as planned and she has to survive an aggressive and physically demanding initiation. Beatrice Prior must uncover her true hidden strengths and risk her family, her newfound love, and her very own life to defuse a mysterious conspiracy which could change the balance of power forever.

Divergent hits theaters March 21, 2014.
