NBC and actor Alec Baldwin have announced a new talk show for the star coming to MSNBC this October.

Best known in recent years for his role on NBC’s 30 Rock opposite Tina Fey, Baldwin’s Up Late will air live on Fridays at 10 p.m. eastern/pacific on the peacock’s liberal-leaning 24-hour news network beginning next month.

“After two seasons of my WNYC podcast, I’ve developed a fondness for hosting a show that involved talking with smart, talented and engaging people in every imaginable field,” said Baldwin in a press release. “I’m grateful to MSNBC for helping me bring a similar show to television.”

“I’ve been talking with Alec for a while and can’t wait to bring his personality and eclectic interests to MSNBC,” said Phil Griffin, President of MSNBC. “He’s got such passion for ideas and what’s going on in the world – he’s going to be a great addition to our line-up.”

Baldwin is also well-known for his hosting gigs on Saturday Night Live. To date, the actor has hosted 16 times.

Rumors of Baldwin hosting a show on NBC first surfaced in April, but at the time it was reported that he would take a late night slot on NBC’s broadcast network (not MSNBC).

Although the press release describes his show as covering “current events and culture,” we imagine it will be heavy on politics since it will be on MSNBC.
